AND THEN... a starred review from Publishers Weekly came in! And I was thrilled to pieces and so, so, so very thankful.
If you wanted to bowl me over with a feather, you should've stopped by on July 19th, 2016 because that's when I found out BEAST was honored with a starred review from Kirkus. Like, I jumped up and down and then got ded and then woke up and jumped up and down some more. Check it out HERE
"A believable and beautiful human story."
Holy cow! I don't even know where to begin. 2016 has been a wild one, that's for sure. I think we all can attest. First up, there was an amazing opportunity earlier this summer to go to the ALA Annual in Orlando to speak on the panel Reflecting Realities with Cory Silverberg, Donna Gephart and Meredith Russo. It was a wonderful to hear their thoughts about their books and their passion for inclusive stories. Trans rights remain true to my heart because transgender rights are human rights.
My cover was released in February. It was designed and executed by the incomparable Leo Nickolls and when I saw it for the first time I cried at a gas station. (checkin' my emails & pumpin' gas) It's just so beautiful and he captured the book so perfectly. I honestly didn't know what my publisher was going to come up with because I couldn't come up with anything and I supposedly went to art school and was supposed to kinda know a little bit about this stuff, maybe. But he absolutely nailed it and I will always be thankful. It's gorgeous.
The big hooray hooray news: I sold my novel to Knopf! It was bought at auction by the same editor I worked on my picture books with, Erin Clarke. Feels good to be back, Knopf is a fantastic place to be and I couldn't be happier. Working with her again is pretty darn awesome, I must say. There's already some buzz for the book. BEAST got a real nice shout out in Publisher's Weekly wrap up of the Bologna Fair 2015: The Hunt for Something Special.
Come back and keep in touch for upcoming news and events. Looking forward to it.
much hugs- Brie :)
